Bread-tober-fest

Posted by on July 6, 2011

A lot to catch up on, so no frills here…

James and Jutta (friends in Cologne, Germany) very kindly hosted (more like hand held and baby-sat) us for about a week while we bought two touring bikes and associated gear.

Jutta, very literally, put us on the train all care packaged up, bound south for the start of the Danube river.

Fast forward a week – we’ve tented every night, clocked up over 450kms (~280 miles) and eaten alot of tinned and dried meals.

Our daily average is only about 65kms, but given that each day you have to pack up camp then set it up again when you arrive, its a fairly long day. So needless to say finding the energery to locate WIFI has escaped us.

We have fallen into a bit of a routine for each day, starting first by packing up our tent and gear, strapping on our paniers and then setting off to the nearest bakery for a cup of cofee and some amazing pasteries and BREAD! We are usually on the road by 7.30 am to beat the heat and are passing through some amazing countryside each day. We are by far the youngest on the trail, but have met some very inspirational and quirky folk.

2-3 weeks to go and 3 more countries to pass through…..

Till then

Tschüs!

A wedding tradition in Cologne; padlock your names on the bridge and throw the keys into the river - only a year or so late ;-)

Fabulous post guys! I am amazed you have the energy to pull out the camera with the schedule you have described. Love the padlock photo- that is quite a memory to build on. Missing you both but enjoying your experiences vicariously. Love you. Dorothy
